3rd Party Event
27 May 2025 09:00 - 28 May 2025 18:00
Athens, Greece

The Data Week is the spring gathering of the Big Data and Data Driven AI research and innovation community in Europe.

Organised by BDVA, Data Week 2025 will center its focus on the fundamental elements of Data Value creation. Artificial intelligence (AI) serves as a pivotal tool in unlocking data value through various means and this is why our event`s theme is “Odyssey of AI: Navigating the Data Seas”. Creating value from data also requires viewing it from an ecosystem perspective and fostering collaboration among multiple stakeholders, which lays the groundwork needed for research excellence, that is required to be rapidly put into action for competitiveness and societal benefit.

This year, Data Week will be a 2-day physical event taking place in Athens, Greece between 27-28 May. The event is organised by the Big Data Value Association, hosted by Cosmote – OTE and in collaboration with the following BDVA members: Athens Technology Center S.A. (ATC), Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), CORE Innovation Center, Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications – National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, FORTH and Neuropublic.

EMERALDS at the event

Extreme data requires advanced techniques, tools, or infrastructures for processing, analysing, and effectively managing it, leading to innovations in cloud computing, machine learning, and distributed systems to handle its challenges. The DataNexus cluster, composed of HE projects Graph-Massivizer, NearData, Exa4Mind, EMERALDS, EXTRACT, Syclops and Efra, has been working on this topic for more than 2 years and brings together a compelling set of solutions for Extreme data mining, aggregation and analytics. Another cluster called AI.BIG focuses on AI and Big Data Analysis for emergency situation and Extreme Data exploitation. Because of the obvious synergies, DataNexus will invite AI.BIG to debate on the progress experienced by the EU in dealing with extreme data.

In this workshop, the five projects from the DataNexus cluster and one from AI.BIG will showcase how they tackle extreme data challenges for societal, economic, industrial and research impact. Attendees will gain valuable insights into solutions that deal with data heterogeneity, quality, and interoperability across HPC, cloud, and edge computing environments. A sample of high-impact real-world applications will be showcased, and the audience will be asked to discuss future trends identified by the cluster and contribute to shaping Europe’s extreme data agenda. Outcomes of the session will feed the DataNexus cluster white paper.

Attendees to this session will get a compelling view of the progress made in addressing extreme data challenges through the portfolio of projects funded by HE in several clusters and notably DataNexus. Specific solutions will be briefly presented so that the community can build upon such developments and understand which specific applications and domains are especially suited to benefit from them. Attendees will also have the opportunity to express their views on gaps and future challenges and contribute to shape the innovation agenda for such technologies.
