Privacy-aware in situ Data Harvesting

"Privacy-aware in situ data harvesting" describes EMERALDS' novel approach to edge data collection and processing that safeguards user privacy, especially when handling sensitive or personal data. By harnessing Edge computing, EMERALDS implements a multi-layered privacy framework. The foundational "in-situ protection layer" prevents the transfer of sensitive data to centralized storage, inherently keeping it private and secure, away from prying eyes. In addition to that, the second layer incorporates privacy-preservation algorithms directly at the Edge. These algorithms actively and continuously execute privacy attacks in real-time, aiming to identify sensitive data such as individuals' movement patterns. This allows for prompt mitigation, including the removal of trajectories that could compromise people’s privacy.
